We have a 2006 Montana SV6 with the 3.5L. The misses ran over another nail. The front 2 tires are pretty near worn. I'm looking at some used tires. The door jamb states it should take 225/70R17 tires. They are not too common & I wonder if a Slight deviance in the first two #s would fit without any issues. Such as 235/70R17 or ... I know what all the numbers mean.

are you sure your door jamb shows 225/70R17 and not 225/60R17 ?

the stock tire, 225/60R17 is 27.6" in diameter.
the 235/70R17 is 29.95" in diameter, over 2" taller which may or may not cause clearance issues.
try finding a 225/60R17 or a 235/60R17

When it comes to tire (rubber) replacements:
- As general rule, should replace with exact same size. re: 225/60-17
- Going "wider" (225 to 235) for winter tires can make tires float onto of snow. This is bad. For winter "snow" tires, best to go with -1 size skinnier rubber.
- When replacing tires, always best to replace ALL 4 tires with same make / size at same time.
- If one chooses to go with +1 wider (for better summer dry traction) or -1 skinnier (for better winter deep snow traction), do keep within 3% variance of factory tire size. Under 3% change, its ABS / traction control will work properly and its Speed meter will be within reason as well. Above 3% change and vehicle's computer system can do strange things (especially when vehicle goes into a winter slide skid).

Notes:
- To learn more about winter tire "downsizing", surf entire site @ http://www.factorytire.ca/tire-services/winter-tire-downsizing.aspx
- Being within Alberta Canada region, do check with your local road rules about studded tires and other tire usage restrictions. For example, my winter tires have both snowflake and ice peaks stamps on them. Thus, good combo of both snow and ice traction. And, I get insurance discounts for using these certified snow & ice certified tires as well.

Hope this helps.
