Guys,
Has anyone done a disc brake conversion. I've got a 66 Lemans. It currently has a manual drum break set up. It doesn't even have a power booster. The engine in there is currently weak, but i'm thinking of upgrading to a Smeding Performance Crate Motor. Even if i replace the motor right away i figure this can only increase safety. Should i do a front and rear conversion? I know the main stopping power is up front, but does it really make sense to use new and old tech to save some cash? Any suggestions on brands or kits you've used? I'd love to hear your experience if any with this. I've looked at a few kits on OPGI but they seem to be universal and i didn't see any reviews on pontiacs. Amsperf, doesn't have reviews on their products either. Thanks.

I have no direct experience with any of the kits but I buy all my parts that are not locally available from Ames.

If you do it check to see if your original rims will still fit on the car afterwards

Tires, brakes and suspension upgrades should be considered when increasing horse power and torque. Your on the right track.

How far you should take this upgrade depends on the amount of power and performance you want from this car. and of course your budget.

The type of driving you will be doing makes a big difference as well.

Even with 4 wheel power disk brakes you will not compete with a modern ABS car when it comes to a oh crap moment when someone slams on the brakes in front of you.

For any one to recommend any type of upgrade we need more information about what the car will be used for and how you intend on driving it.

If your a aggressive driver that will test the limits of this car on the street or track, drag or road course you will need deep pockets.
