Aztek? My fiance and have always wondered if some people actually went to the dealer specifically for this car or if they got suckered into for one reason or another.

Depends on what you mean by suckered. They were selling these things based on a "love it or hate it" look basically. They didn't particularly stand out in cargo space, mileage, performance...or really ANY catagory. People bought them because they were just weird enough to be appealing. Personally I'm not a fan of the looks, but I am glad that humans are creative enough to think up an automotive monstrosity like this once in a while, just to keep things interesting. :-)

Do I like it for the fact that it's named after an ancient people? no

The two people I know that have them just absolutely love them. Apparently, once they got past the looks, they fell in love with the functionality.

I dunno - still pretty doggone ugly - a 'double-brown-bagger'. :-)

It seems like I'm the only one who loved it's looks. Sure it can be ugly, but that's what made it unique. No other GM brand had their version(which is one of the reason I like it, since it is Pontiac only), UNTIL Buick came out with, less drastic looking Rendezvous. Looks aside, it had an awesome interior functionality that no other vehicle offered. This is definately a car that won't caught annonymously with so many, similar and boring looking vehicles produced. It's funky look is a stand-out, so it will be noticed. Though I never owned it, I would like to give Pontiac a credit for trying something new, and unique. I wouldn't mind seeing it return in the near future. It is 1,000 times better than that nonsence Scion xD, or the toaster on wheel Honda Element, which I go Yuck.

Ditto - I love this car

I don't understand the motivation of people to seek out this forum, where people ask serious questions and advice, and then use it to berate and criticize the car.

I drive a 2001 Dark Blue Aztek and I have had no regrets. We bought it after a family vacation in our Chevy Cavalier which ended up with a day's drive with my daughter's feet resting on my shoulders from the back seat. We knew after that that the kids had outgrown the back seat, so when we got home I searched vehicles on the internet based on back seat leg and fanny room, and the Aztek got high marks in a review by Popular Mechanics and several other reviewers. This was in August of 2002 and I could find no used Azteks anywhere near me. Finally I found a new 2001 at a dealer in a town 80 miles away, set up the sale over the phone, and drove to get it. I'd had no test drive or anything, although I had seen a few on the road. After 8 years and 104,000 miles I have had no problems that weren't covered by warranty.

I like the agressive, space-age looks of the front end, and the interior is great. People's jaws drop when I hand them a cold soda from the cooler or offer the on-board air pump to fill their tire. I like having a car that doesn't look like everything else on the road, and that will comfortably seat adults in the back seat. I like knowing there's room for all the luggage I want to carry. This car has been perfect for my family and I plan to keep on driving it.

Pontiac Aztek

Hello I'm a new member,my name is Robert from viva- Las Vegas. My wife and I miss our pontywacker. We bought a 2005 loadad with AWD in NJ off a dealer in freehold. She was two tone red and black and only payed 16 grand with a sticker of close to 30 grand. This dealer had only 2 red and yellow. It was stolen by a bunch of young hoods and crunch time for fun. I give anything to get another soon my honda pilot is a better suv but is not fun.
Really stand back look at the hood with those foney hood scoops and you have a GTO 9 month into the makeing. Remember it FUN to DRIVE

We got a used 2001 Aztec a few years ago. My Fiancee wanted a unique vehicle and she got one. We loved the cool stuff like power points all over the place and the stereo controls in the back. It's roomy enough for her son's stand up bass or my entire PA system. The seats are comfortable and the sound system is as good as we'll ever need.

But the thing came with issues. It had an electrical "ghost" that took three different mechanics and over $300 to nail down. We have replaced the head gasket TWICE in 6 years, at $2500 a shot. Last May it was wheel bearings at $600, and now I seem to have a cracked radiator. Another $300 (my labor) or $600 at our mechanics.

We love our Aztec, but it's costing us a fortune to keep on the road.

I'd have to say I was converted. When I moved out to california I'd see these things on the road and point and laugh. Then When I started looking for a car of my own I ended up at a used car tent event and there were three of these Aztek's on the back of the lot, brand new but had never sold. I told my girlfriend at the time that these things were so ugly, I just had to see the inside of it. After I checked out all the features I was totally sold and almost ten years later I'm still driving it and have only recently started have some maintenence issues. For a while it hauled myself, my ex-wife and our two kids and 120lb dog with no issues at all. Now it's kind of like my signature at work as well, everyone who sees that car driving around knows it's me. At work, they started calling it the "Ninja Turtle" ( I got the green one!), but I told them that while I loved my car, it wasn't cool enough for the Ninja portion of that, so now I'm the proud owner of my "Turtle". It's a great car, though having to work on it myself is pretty rough, mounting the engines in there the way they did have made some pretty simple jobs terribly annoying. At some point I'll have to let her go, and that won't be an easy thing to do.

I bought my 2001 Aztek 2 weeks ago. I saw it online and always liked them from when I sold them in 2001. I LOVE it and when I saw it I went right for it. No question about it. I bought it because I wanted it and not because someone talked me into it

don't own one, but when i get some money together I wanna pick one up and use it as my tow car, camper.

I like them. My wife and I were looking for one when we found our '06 Torrent. I still might get one in a year or two if I can find a nice one at a reasonable price.
