1987 pontiac FIERO SE? I just bought the car knowing it would need work, but im wondering how much , and what all has to be done to get it fixed. I had one in high school, and I do know that they can tend to be junk, but its the nostalgia thing coming back. So please spare me the lectures on how bad of a car they are. lol- Thanks in advance

If you are going to do the work yourself, just remove the head and take it to a machine shop. Usually costs about $100 - $200 for them to clean, shave, magnaflux, and put new valve stem oil seats in it. If it has a bad valve, they will replace it. It will be like a new one when you get it back.

I'd guess about as much as the cars worth. that's the thing about being nostalgic, it doesn't usually go hand in hand with logic. Okay I'm done with the smart ass remarks...... soooo, they basically have to pull the head to get the valve out so your looking at the cost of a head gasket job plus the valve or any polishing or cleaning they may need to do to the seat. sooooo,,,,,,, let's say around 1200 to 1500 bucks. you could do it yourself for A LOT cheaper but that's up to you.

Is it a V-6 or the 4-cyl?

As mentioned above you can remove the head(s) yourself and then drop them off at a decent machine shop. They can clean up the heads and replace anything bad.
When I built a V-6 for mine the heads cost $350 for both to be cleaned, ported, polished, new valves, new seals, and I had the heads decked .010 to increase compression slightly. The 4-cyl head is is around $200 to have it done.
