Downstream 02 sensor

Do you need the downstream 02 sensor in a 1996 pontiac sunfire es 2.2 or can you just disconnect it or just leave it it throws a 02 sensor code and what the purpose of the downstream 02 sensor

It monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Disconnecting it will still give you a check engine light. If you ignore the light and something else throws a code you won't know it since you will assume it's the O2 sensor. Why not replace it?

I don't have catalytic converter

So how is your ECM going to properly control the engine and you should also have other codes.

I haven't had any problems far as code besides the o2 sensor code no motor issue I been driving it like that for a while
