Took out my rear driveshaft as center support is ripped. Found 2 nice units at boneyard. One is stock dia and center support seems very stiff as in no side play for flex. It is a bit rusty but that’s to be expected. 2nd one is on an equinox and it is about 1/2” smaller pipe dia. Kinda looks like the aftermarket style. it is nice and black as the paint is not rusted off. Center support has a bit more wiggle but it is not torn or split like my old one. Any vote for which one to grab? They are both $16

If you are sure the Equinox unit is same length and ends are identical, it sounds like the one to use.

I have pulled a couple driveshafts on equinoxes I got for headgaskets. sometimes the bearing is totally wasted. No rubber left at all. A few have had ok bearings but all have been rusty. My sis has 08 equinox she has had for 6-7 yrs. she had a gas tank leak and I looked at the driveshaft for giggles and I swear it was brand new. Not a speck of rust. She said it is original.

My rig is an 06. Both good driveshafts at junkyard are 07. Everything online says they are different lengths. Bummer

My 05 driveshaft is in shed. I can measure it. Then I can measure the 07 torrent driveshaft and see if they really are 3-4” different in length. I just can’t believe GM would change them that much from 05-07 model years. Why? What part of drivetrain changed? Both have the 3.4 motor. Did the output assy case on transaxle change?

Hopefully you mean 2006 because you wrote 2005 in two areas of your post.
You can try researching changes at gmpartsdirect.com.

Huh, I did say 06. My torrent is 07. equinox is 05. 05 and 06 use same driveshaft. It changed in 07. For both equinox and torrent. I replaced the carrier bearing on a previous 05 and it started whining in 3months. So I took it out again. And never put it back. That equinox is gone.

Well, measured both driveshafts. My 05 is 88” long. Has 3.25” dia hub at trans output. The 07 is 86” long and has 4.5” dia hub. Yep, they are different.

1/2 price day, nice!

Yard was packed. 20 people in check out lane. If I can read decals on driveshaft I figure it’s fairly new. Found a nice set of wheels too.
