Thinking about turning my spare tire area into a amp pit. Something along the lines of building a carpeted box that'll house 2 amps with a plexy glass top. I want it to be flush with the rest of the trunk interior perhaps i can integrate the spare tire housing cover...

what'dyall think? any tips or recommendations?

Make sure you have good tires & beware road waste! Seems like it will work fairly well, have a clean look, save some space. Make sure the amps are a good brand/class so they can withstand heat! You don't want to mount them to the back seat?

I'm not a fan of the rear seat mount for multiple reasons, but i'd mount it there before i mounted it to the sub box aha. Brand new tires on the GA and i check the pressure occasionally.

Amps are quality and i live in a colder climate so i don't think heat will be an issue. if it is i'll just throw some computer fans into the mix.

Right now i've got 600w rockford fosgate class d mono powering my 15" kicker l3, a JL Audio 4 channel 360w powering my front 4x6s and rear 6x9s (kicker)
and 2 rockford fosgate prime tweeters wired to the head unit. Just finished all the wiring today and boy does it sound good. Very balanced and clear. Just gotta work on making' it look pretty now.

For my amp pit i'm thinking about going 18x18x4. Working on designs at the moment gonna pick up the materials come friday.

This is true kevlar; guess I've heard too many horror stories of people waiting forever for tow here in DFW, plus I like to go when I get a flat.

Very cool take pics and let us know. I'm glad someone else got rid of those 4x6 in the door; had to fab a custom mounting plate tho. How does that 15 sound? I am not looking for bass 3 blocks down, but I do like to feel the bass - 2 x 12" in my Impala. At any rate, I'll be adding a sub to the setup in the future on the Grand Am.

I found some 2x4s and plywood in the attic, working on the rough frame at the moment. Ordering carpet/spray/plexy glass tomorrow. gonna go ahead and order a power distribution block for the dual amp ground and probably drill through the wheel well (from the bottom up of course) and attach it to the chasis of the car. While i'm at it i'm also going to order a relay for the amp power on signal. Because of the pre-existing monsoon amp wiring i all ready have all the necessary wires to tap at hand. Might as well do it right if i'm gonna put this much effort into it.

The 15 sounds terrific. Hats off to kicker, the square subs truly do possess a unique sound. I've got a little bass knob mounted below my fog switch that allows me to decide how many blocks away i want to be heard ;)

All of them! Lol! That sounds like a great setup. I used plywood to make my mounts for the 6 1/2" too. What model did you use for the sub, I might have to steal your idea. I love adding sound to cars. I hate the grilles on this car those since it is all one piece an a real PITA for the 6x9 in the deck.
