Upgrading from a 2GV carb to a edelbrock 4 barrel (P/N 1406) and intake manifold (P/N 2256) on my 1972 lemans 350. On the original intake the emissions purge valve (pages 6D-12 and 6D-13 of the 72 manuals) was installed to help with cold start emissions. Do I really need that? The one I took off looked like it was seized so it probably wasn't working anyway, and I can't for the life of me find a replacement. I'm thinking I don't and could just plug that port on the new manifold along with the port on the canister? By the way it looks like all other emissions stuff was removed, except the PCV valve, prior to me buying the car.

It's not necessary and neither is the canister. On my 71 GTO I removed the canister and attached a fuel filter to the line coming from the tank vapor separator. That way there is a vent for the system and dirt cannt go back into the line from the tank vapor separator. Good to hear you have the manual.
