Engine bogs when given gas from a stop-Accelerator pump?

Engines bogs down when I give it gas from a stop. Actually stalled out the other day. I think its the accelerator pump. Any way to know for sure? Is it hard to replace?
 
with the engine off, remove the air cleaner and operate the throttle. You should see a significant amount of gas spray into the throat of the carburetor. If not the accelerator pump has to be replaced. Assuming you have a rochester 2bbl or 4bbl, the air horn assembly, top of carburetor, has to be removed to replace it.
 
I saw two streams of gas spray in, so that seems to work ok. Maybe its running to rich?

Assuming you have a stock ignition system check the dwell and ignition timing before you assume it's a carburetor problem. In addition look for any disconnected or cracked vacuum lines.

after poking around more i think its a vacuum leak. how can i pinpoint the leak?
 
get a can of carburetor cleaner and spray around the suspected areas, if you notice a change in idle you found the leak
 
How old is the carb?
Quadrajet?
I have a few quadrajets that I ran on my new motor..also had one of the Holley replacement jobs that fit the quad manifold.
Amazing how easy the old Holley just fired up,idled and ran.
I would just bolt on a Holley right from the box..save some headaches.
Quadrajets are good carbs when set up correctly..but rebuilding old ones doesn't seem to be as smart as buying new.
