engine for an A4 700R4 transmission (V6)

I have a 1989 Pontiac firebird with a 2.8L V6, A4 700R4 transmission. The transmission is fresh off a rebuild but the engine is shot. I would like to keep the transmission that I’ve got but would like to go with a more powerful engine. looking for all my options on what will bolt up to my transmission. or what could i sell my transmission for.

The 3.4 from '93-'95 will work, use the EFI from your 2.8 or try to adapt the newer electronics. The Fiero crowd has mastered the first option. Even so, that's 160 HP.
Better to sell it.
