I have a 2002 with the 2.2 OHV engine (automatic) with about 100,000 kms....hardly broken in :b
It's been running very well and never stalls. Starts fine. All tune up items done.
Recently it's been making a strange noise at idle particularly when started cold but now all the time and has gotten progressively worse. Sounds like it's coming from the front accessory end of the engine and more distinctive with the hood open. A rattliing, something loose sound.
I tried spraying belt dressing on the belt but no difference.
Any ideas before I take it into a shop to get ripped off?

Help. I have to leave in a week on a long trip!!!

It could be the accessory drive belt or tensioner. It also could be the timing chain. Try using a rubber hose, hold one end to your ear and the other to various areas in the front of the engine till you locate the source.
