Engine of ECU difference between 1987/1988 V6?

Is there some difference between 1987 and 1988 Fiero GT V6 engines and/or ECU?

I was planning to test used Hypertech chip in order to see if makes any performance difference, but it seems to be wrong year type, since Fierostore sells different chips for different year models.

So, what is the difference, and are performance chip interchangeable, or will they harm engine/ECU, if testing the wrong one?
