I have a 67 pontiac Le Mans. I am rebuilding a 455 for the install. The 326 is being mothballed in my garage. The question is what was painted from the factory. I know the block was. The intake to pan is the question. Do I use etching primer for the first coat then color correct paint. Or do I just use the correct color paint. I am going to rattle can it. Where do I find a correct valve covers. When they come come from the factory or do i paint the chrome valve covers. I've seen the blue green paint on some and some are chrome. My oil pan is gold iodized, I like it but I'm pretty sure the factory diet come like that.
Thanks for your input in advance!!!

after cleaning you use the correct color paint. The factory painted the pan, block, heads, and manifold. Not sure what you mean "correct" valve covers, correct for a 67 LeMans or "correct" for a 455, It should be whatever you want since the combo isnt "correct" to start with. Personally, I'd put the chrome Pontiac covers on, check out www.amesperf.com for them in the GTO catalog.

By correct I was referring to what the factory did on both. I know a 455 was not made in 67 but I want more power. No such thing as too much, unless frame ect can not take the stress. I know it is no longer a surviver car. I want a reliable driver not a trailer queen. I plan on enjoying the car. With that said I AM trying to keep it mostly correct. By that I mean like factory( even if its only in appearance). I plan on painting the body with new technology paint, not laquor or what they used in 1967, but she will stay Tyrol blue. I am torn about adding A/C, disk brakes and a GTO hood because it he hood looks meaner. I will keep the original. A/C will make it more comfortable 9 months out of the year. It's HOT in south Texas. So I'm not a total purest sorry. Disk brakes might just save the car in an emergency stop situation. I am spoiled by my ever day driver. Ac, power brakes, CD player... To the purists I respect putting the car back to original but for me if brake technology helps save my life I am in lined to use it. If she was a show piece/ trailer queen I would keep the brakes ect the same.
Thanks for your help!!! And responces!!!

Good luck with you project, let us know how it turns out.
