Hi
have a 1965 catalina with a 455cui engine.
carburetor is a Rochester quadrajet.
the engine has the following defects.
When you turn the ignition key, there is not always some kind of deflagration and there is smoke from the air filter.
sometimes it goes well and sometimes it doesn't.
ignition is currently at 11 degrees before ot.
What I also noticed is that it often does not start when I play the organ, but when I turn the ignition key to the left again. Then it ignites and still starts. As if something were with the ballast resistor!
what he still does is after organ if he doesn't start.
key is on the left again.
then the pistons move again as if he had a problem with the crankshaft ventilation.
what do you all mean?
greetz patrick from Germany

The translation from German is very poor.
Did you set the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected?
What distributor do you have, points or electronic?

Srry
A pertronix ignition would have to be installed.
At least the ignition coil is from pertronix! haven't looked under the distributor cap yet.
but I suspect something with the crankshaft ventilation?
because it pushes out of the carburetor and the piston moves later.?what you mean
Pcv valve?

If you haven't looked under the distributor cap,
1. Did you set the points gap or dwell angle before adjusting the timing?
2. The rotor and cap maybe pitted or cracked.
3. The advance weights may be sticking.
4. Did you set the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected?

Yes, I have agreed to the vacuum from the distributor when the ignition is set. How it must be.
it goes on and runs very well when it is on.
I'll check everything again first
