Hey guys, it's been a minute sense I've posted. Missed yall, got a bit to share with you too!
I'll start with the big one. 2 months ago on my way to a friends house my car shut off on me. I was in the middle of doing a 3 point turn around and i figured the car had stalled due to low rpms. I immediately attempt to start the car back up and continue on when i notice how high my temp gauge is. My vehicle isn't in the road so i decide to just sit here and let it cool down, after a while i'd try to get the rest of the way to my buddies. During the short trip from where i stalled to my buddies house, i noticed that all to familiar tick tick tick...
I hoped for the best. It sounded very much like a stuck lifter, and even with that in mind i was hoping it would free its self. I brought it to a mechanic as soon as i could and he told me it sounded like the beginning of rod knock, And that i'd probably need to replace the entire engine this time as a lifter would not suffice. A few other mechanics back this up, i go ahead and start looking for a used engine.
After scouring local junkyards, ebay, craigslist..really everything i could think of i stumbled upon this part finder online. If im not mistaken it was connected to a junk yard database and helped me find exactly what i was looking for. Anyways, found a replacement engine for 700 shipped, "90k" from a somewhat reliable garage. It arrived 2 days after purchase, and after sitting in my yard for a week (covered) i had the funds to have it put in.
It's been a week with the new engine now, and i'm impressed with how smoothly it runs.
Up until a few days ago, i was still dealing with the intermittent abs trac off and SVS lights. Code still points to the right front speed sensor circuit being the culprit. Bearing was replaced a year ago and I've replaced the speed sensor wiring twice thus far. The first time it lasted 6 months no issues (i did the work myself) and the second time i brought it to a garage to have it swapped out, this time only lasting a month before acting up. Both of us had used different methods; i soldered my connections and the mechanic crimped his.
Before i wasted another 25 dollars on a replacement section of the wiring harness for the speed sensor for the THIRD time, i decided i'd test the waters with my own replacement part. I start off with removing the 'faulty' section of wiring from the harness, i then go on to remove the connector and dispose of the wiring. I replace and solder the hub connector onto a generous amount of speaker wire, dress it up with some protective tubing, tape er' up and re install it to the wiring harness.
Its been 2 days sense I've seen the dash lights which appeared every time i drove the car before my little innovation. Lets see if this actually holds up!
