Engine Swap Issue

Hi, I Have A 96 Ws6 Trans Am That Ran Great But Lost Oil Pressure.
I Swaped The Engine With A New 398. With All The Aftermarket Goodies, Such As 58mm T Body, 44lbs Fuel Inj, Afr Heads And So On.
My Problem Is It Will Not Run. I Had The Pc Reprogrammed With All
The New Info. Sometimes It Will Start And Run Poorly And Others
It Will Act Like It Wants To But Wont. I Have Verified Spark Fuel
And Air But No Luck. I Have Pulled The Front Cover More Times Than I Would Like To Verify Correct Timing. I Am At A Loss Here And Would Appreciate Any Feedback.

Thanks - John

what exactly is a "New 398"? You say you verified fuel and spark, exactly what did you do to verify them? You say you have removed cover a few times, did you build this engine?

Engine Was Bored Out When It Was Rebuilt At Jeggs. I Purchased It Off Of A Guy Who Works There. I Verified Fuel Pressure With A Guage And Verified Spark With A Plug Style Tester. I Took It Apart
To Make Sure It Had Propper Bearing Clearance And To Retorque
Everything. When I Put Everything Back Togeather Being My First
Fuel Inj. Motor I Set The Timing Marks Based On Internet Info Which
Stated Marks Are At 12(cam) And 6(crank) For The Lt1 Motor. This I Found Out Was Incorrect According To The Lt1/lt4 Rebuild Book I Bought. I Had The Egr Program Removed As Well When I Had The Pc Reprogrammed. The Only Thing I'm Not Sure Of Is If I Need To Have The 02 Sensors Pluged In. I Was Planning On Leaving Them Out
Becouse The Headers Have No Provisions For Them.
Can You Tell Me If The 96 Has The Lt4 Or The Lt1? Not Sure If There
Is A Big Difference But The Intake I Purchased Was For A Lt1. It Matched The Origional So I Assumed It Was An Lt1.

the 96 from the factory was an LT1 and the cam/crank are dot to dot, crank at 12 cam at 6. Can you plug in the O2 sensors just to start it up?

Timing

The lt1 book must be wrong then... Question: it never ran at the 12 and 6
location. it only backfired through the exhaust and intake. i took the 44lbs
fuel inj. out and put the stock ones back in (plugs were soaked). i then set the marks at 12 and 12. and it fired right up but did not run well. the valves
were not adjusted at that time. It has been hit and miss.
Within the next couple of days i will reset the timing at 6 and 12 and put
it back togeather. What a nightmare this has been. i wanted to learn new
school to see were it would take me. who knew.....
I'll let you know what happend thanks for your help.
