I have about given up on this van. I just had to replace the smart key a few weeks ago because someone decided to walk off with them. It has been about two weeks and really only had one issue where the van wouldn't start. I jumped it off of one of my marine batteries that was in the back (thank you camping trip lol). It only did that once and it was fine. Now the key turns on all of the aux stuff, there is no lock out warning or anything. The battery has a full charge, but it still will not turn over. The starter is not even trying to fire (not even getting a clicking noise). Can someone tell me is it the key or did my starter blow up on me?
Please help my van is stranded down at the other side of town dead. Does anyone know a way to rig it so I can get it home to work on it?
What year is the van and mileage ? Not sure if this is a security key lock out issue ? However if you have the pass key III set up then how did you program the new set of keys to work ? According to the manual you have to go to dealer for programing.Here is a link for a 2003 Montana manual look in section 2 it describes the pass key III system if you have another year Montana or pass key system then what I said here is useless good luck and keep us posted. http://www.pontiacforum.com/pontiac/showthread.php?t=24306&highlight=manual+pdf
I have a 2000 Montana, and I had a certified locksmith cut and program the key. The key worked fine. The key still turns on everything, and I can switch gears etc., but there is no reaction from the starter solenoid to the starter to turn over the engine.
well lets rule out that the pass key is preventing a no start ,I would make sure the battery is fully charged and then if no crank check for voltage at the solenoid (starter). This would check the ignition switch and the starter.
Sadly it looks like the engine may have seized up on me cause the crank shaft won't turn at all. I just hope I can tow it home and see if I can't figure it out. If it is what I think it is one of the rocker arms was sounding loose before cross your fingers for me I didn't throw a rod.
Had a somewhat similar issue that happened a couple months ago on my Montana.
* fresh battery
* nothing on electrical panel lights up
* checked all fuses
* was able to get it jumped up by CAA once, but it refused to turn over, even after a half hour of charging.
Thought the alternator might have went. Apparently turned out to be a wiring component relating to the alternator and battery I believe. It cost me only about 50 bucks for the component replacement instead of 300 for a new alternator.
