Erratic rpm's

I have a 2000 grand am se 3.4... my rpms are jumping around 200 to 500 steady all the time, sometimes when I turn my car on in park it will rev up to 2000 rmps and just stay there and when I put it in reverse and drive when that happens it just wants to accelerate by its self..I have changed the tps (throttle body position senser) and the pig tail witch is the wire that hooks up to it...and still no change. My next project is change the fuel filter and charcoal canister to see if that helps since the evap light is on anyways.....

if you have a check engine light on you need the code scanned if this problem started after the evap code. You could have a new code and not know it since you are ignoring the light. You may have a vacuum leak which would cause the erratic rpm not the fuel filter and charcoal canister. You also may have a dirty throttle body.

I have already changed the tps the code was on for that and now it's off the only code that's on is for evap there's 2 codes for the evap. I figured on Honda try and change the fuel filter anyways because I just hit 2 hundred thousand and the ppl that had the car before me never did a transmission flush on it I did it so I doubt they ever changed the fuel filter so that might make a difference because there might be a clog in it ......idk im just running out of ideas I have put $2000 in this car so far practically rebuilt the car so sooner or later in bound to find the problem

please post the actual codes you currently have. did you clean the throttle body? did you check for a vacuum leak?

I'm gonna have to wait for the light to come back on I reset the computer after I changed the fuel filter and yes the fuel filter was clogged could hardly blow Thro it and had black stuff coming out of it...but any ways I got allot more acceleration plus I put fuel injector cleaner in to which helped alil
