Car is 1968 Pontiac Lemans / 350 / 5.7L / 2 barrel carb / exhaust manifold. I need to replace the exhaust system. Every online site I look at is offering a duel exhaust system for my car. I looked under my car and I have a single exhaust system (1 muffler). Am I missing something.

BTW. I ordered a couple books on the car and they are on their way. So I am sure I am asking some dumb questions until the books get here.

Thanks . . . .JIMB

a single exhaust would be correct for that engine with a 2bbl carburetor. The problem is nobody still makes it off the shelve. You have to go to a shop that can custom bend the system for you. It may be cheaper to convert to a off the shelve dual system.

Yeah, and it will sound better with dual exhaust anyway, and probably run better too.

Dual exhaust system suggestions?

Good advice on going to a dual system. I just took off the old system. Looks like its fairly simple to just put on a dual system. Just need a few more brackets - I think.

Any suggestions on a dual system. I am looking for a throaty system. I want it to sound like a muscle car. Thanks . . . JIMB

Look at the PYPES system http://www.pypesexhaust.com/

One thing to point out, I used it on my 1971 GTO and got a horrible drone from their mufflers at 2,000 RPM, 40 mph. I switched to Dynomax VT mufflers and it cured the drone.

Do I have an option between 2 inch, 2.5 inch or 3 inch pipes ? Or does something on the car mandate what size pipes i get?

With the engine size and no other modifications, the 2 1/2" is the way to go. I do not believe there is a 2".

Update here.
I just installed Flowmaster American Thunder 3" dual exhaust on the car.
Holly cow . . It sounds way too cool for me.
Although the Flowmaster was a good fit - it was not a great fit. I needed to cut some of the tubes to length and needed to fit the header collector on the driver side.

6 hours later (little frustration) - exhaust system installed and it sounds fricken AWESOME!!!
