I had a sunbird for many years. Someone once turned on an ld setting or "loud" setting on the factory radio along with a "stereo" setting. I don't know how to turn these on. I'm using a Sunbird factory stereo in a project and wondered if anyone here could help me?

never heard of any modern radio having a button to turn "stereo" on and off, either the station sends a "stereo" signal or not.

Sorry guys, its out of a '90 model, I believe. It's the same as the radio I had in my '89 and in a '94 I have.

I found it odd too. It's been many years ago, but I remember he "turned on" a couple of settings that had not been turned on. There was a definite improvement in the sound quality and the display showed them on at the time. First time the battery was disconnected, off they went again.
When the sunlight hits the radio face right, you can see the "indicator" there, but currently it is not on for the radio I'm working with.

you have looked in the 94 owners manual if you have a copy?

Maybe you are thinking about this>>>>>>>>>>>>

Owners manual 92 Sunbird:

AM Stereo:

"Your Delco radio may be able to receive C-Quam stereo broadcasts. Many Am stations around the country use C-Quam to produce stereo, though some do not.

C-Quam is a registered trademark of Motorola , Inc.

If your Delco system can get C-Quam signals, your stereo indicator will come on when you are receiving it. "

Still some AM stations using it, believe it or not...............

Its not in the owner's manual. I found something on it on a truck forum and it worked. Apparently it works on a lot of Delco radios from this era.
You push volume up and fade forward at the same time for one function and volume down and fade back at the same time for the other. One function is "ld" and the other is "dnr" (dynamic noise reduction). Not sure what dnr does, "ld" boosts the bass a bit. I can definitely hear the radio better over my loud exhaust now anyway.
