I recently acquired an 88 Fiero 2.5L - which after a few initial problems seems to run pretty well. Now that the weather is getting cold at night a problem with the defroster has appeared. The defroster works - and seems to put out plenty of warm air - but the windshield and door windows do not clear up as expected. I have to keep the defroster running full blast to get any results at all. In fact it gets uncomfortably warm in the car (making it necessary to partly open the window). I bought some Rain-X Anti-Fog wipes and did the inside of the windshield and side windows with them. This helped somewhat, but is not really a solution. Can anyone offer insight as to what is going on - and what to do about it? Thanks.

Did you check to see if the A/C was working when it was warm out? When you put the heater controls in defrost mode it usually engages the A/C compressor and that allows the system to remove the humidity from inside the cabin quickly. If the A/C doesn't work, that will cause the windows to take longer to defrost. Also how much air comes out of the vents? You could have a blocked air duct, or the actuators that control the air flow could be going bad and not allowing the air to be directed in the right direction.

That may well be the answer. The A/C appears to work - but doesn't do any cooling. This car had been in storage for quite awhile before I bought it. Since summer is over, restoring the A/C to operation had not been a priority. I'll check it out. Thanks.
