Hi guys I am a hot rodder using a fiero eurosport tilt column.
I have just removed the steering wheel but I can not figure out how to remove the layers of components below the wheel. Seems to be some kind of plastic disc shield that covers the flasher controls etc.

Seems most parts are plastic and I dont want to keep at them not knowing what I am doing and then break something.

I need to dis-assemble the column so I can reconfigure the linkages ( I am trying to conseal the switches) that operate the headlight dip switch and ignition switch.

Any help would be much appreciated. Russ.

Fiero Steering Column

Russ - You need a special tool that compresses the round plate you're looking at once you remove the steering wheel. There's a strong spring under that plate. This special tool presses that round plate down against the strong spring. Once compressed, there's a small round, snap ring that you pry out and work up and off the shaft in the center. Once you do this the special tool will allow you to raise the round plate until the spring pressure is off. Once that happens you remove the special tool and lift the plate off which allow access to the components under the plate (turn signal switch, horn contact ring, etc.) Here's a link to the tool. Maybe a mechanic at a local garage will loan you one.
