Hi,

My 66 Tempest has a 3 on the column shifter. I want to go to a 4 speed floor shift. My car has the OHC 6 cylinder original in it. My car has a bench seat which I'd like to keep and it has the rubber floor mat instead of carpet. It's a real bare bones car.

I was wondering how to do this the least expensive way.

I believe Saginaw 4 speeds are cheaper and will last behind the 6 cylinder

Muncies seem to be a bit costlier but are lighter in weight.

What shifter should I use? Is there a stock shifter or were Hursts used in 66 4 speeds?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you will need to go with any shifter you can find that will fit and not worry that much about whether Hurst or Pontiac. Consoles and buckets were optional so the floor shifter should work with a bench seat providing you cut the floor correctly.

Thanks for the post.........Yes cutting the floor is the critical part.

I have been trying to do the homework on Hurst shifting rods versus regular shifting rods and so forth. It seems GM shifting rods for 1/2 and 3/4 gears will work with a Hurst shifter but NOT the reverse rod.
