Fuel filter will not snap into place unless I take the ez lock tab off

Could it be possible that it does not need the tab? Because it's very secure without it

Any chance you are installing the tab backwards? You risk a massive fuel leak without it.

That would be even more impossible since the other end of the tab is much larger

The filters I see have the plastic fitting on the tube side of the filter and you should be able to push the plastic line on far enough to engage the plastic fitting. Try pushing the fitiing towards the line as you push it on.
