I have a 91 Sunbird LE 2.0. WITH 80,000 MILES. one day it started blowing fuses after about 5 seconds of running. I replaced the fuel pump but I still have the same results. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I cant find a short in the system anywhere.

Also I was wondering if it was possible to run a hotwire to a toggle switch and turn on the fuel pump when I start the car and shut it off when I turn the ignition off ( I was told this was possible)

The car is MINT in like new condition and I would love to track this down so I can keep and use the car...I MISS MY RAGTOP!!!!...ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY APPRECIATED!!!!

did you check the fuel pump relay? did you trace the wire harness back to the pump?

Yes, everything looks good all the way back to the relay. no wear or bad spots. The only think I haven't done is replace the relay its self. I spent $60 on a new pump (waste of money)and a relay is about $30 and I really don't want to buy one just to "see" if the old one is bad. cant return electrical parts to auto parts store.

Its driving me nuts!! as I said before the car is mint and has been garage kept for 15 years. everything under the hood and the undercarriage looks new. I have been over every inch of the wiring from the pump to the relay and to the fuse box under the dash..

when I change the fuse it starts right up for 10 seconds then blows.

arent there other relays in the box with the same part number that you can test with?
