Hello ,

so I noticed for the past week that my gas gauge is always on full, then all of a sudden if Im stopped at a light, the gas needle will go to empty and the low fuel light will come on....drive a bit more and it goes back to full.
Anyone have an idea as to what this can be?

Sounds easy enough to try

Also, don't discount the actual guages. This was my problem. I almost bought a new fuel sending unit thinking it was the problem. First the fuel guage started acting up, then it went to full and died there. I checked what you are to check and no apparently issues there. I had a shop check the ground on the instrument cluster and it was fine. I think found a known issues with the GM stepper motors in some GM vehicles.

During this time, my temp gauge also died. Two gauges led me to believe it was the stepper motors, since the vehicle was otherwise fine. I ordered new stepper motors (4) from ebay. I removed the dash and replaced them (relatively easy even for a non mechanically inclined guy like me). The hardest part is ensuring you line up the dials properly.... after replacing all guage motors, no more problems! It cost about $50 for the stepper motors.
