Hi, everybody. I actually just made this account to get advice from some people that probably know more about Pontiac cars than anyone I've personally met. I'm finally looking to move away from the world of PoS cars and spend a chunk of change on an updated, more reliable car (currently drive a 2001 Eclipse GS -- yuck) and ever since my old 1994 Firebird, I've always had a special place in my heart for Pontiac. I'm looking to spend about $10k and I'm looking for a daily driver so unfortunately, a Firebird is out of the question... at least for now.
Anyway, through some thinking and research, I realize that what I want out of a DD is FWD, four doors, good looks, decent performance, good gas mileage, good reliability, good amount of features, etc. and through looking at Pontiac cars, I've found two contenders as of right now -- The 2007/2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP sedan and the 2007-2009 G6 GTP sedan. I'm just having a terrible time picking.
I know that with the active displacement that the GXP has, it gets just about the same (or better) MPG as the GTP even with the V8 engine and leaves the extra power hidden for when it's needed which is a big plus for me. But I'm also worried about the reliability. I've heard some people say that the cars burn oil and a lot of parts can go bad easily. The other thing I'm not too fond of is the horrendous rear of the GXP. I haven't been fortunate enough to find an aftermarket body kit that'll make it look better but oh well.
With the G6 GTP, I know that the 3.6L V6's actually pack a decent punch. As far as I've heard, they're reliable and they sure as hell look better in just about every aspect. They also have a 6-speed auto trans which--at least on paper--seems better than the GXP's 4-speed auto but I haven't used either so if anyone could give me a little input on that, I'd be grateful. My only concern about the GTP is the lack of features compared to the GXP. I don't really know if there should be more for me to be worried about with the GTP...
Both are about the same price $8-12k so I'm not really sure. Can anyone with any experiences with either car chime in for me? Thanks in advance!
TL;DR - Need advice for choosing between 2007/2008 Grand Prix GXP and a 2007-2009 G6 GTP.
