2000 grand am gt issue with a/c.
So before I changed out the pressure sensor. The compressor would not engage and the fan would not turn on when i push the a/c button. Now ac stopped working last year . was able tp jump the relay to engage the clutch. and it spun. fast forward today this morning I has changed the pressure switch on the a/c line and still it would not engage . i tried filing it but after i jumped the relay to engage the a/c the clutch came on and i started to fill the ac. then i noticed the a/c fan did not come on and it was not cold even thogh the compressor was consyantly running. dont know why a/c is running and fan should automatically turn on with ac. Maybe a faulty compressor??

Are you using a gauge set, hi and low?
Did you evacuate the system before charging and test if it holds vacuum?

i just have the guage with the dial that i purchased. Not the the real good one ,the system was empty to start .it is full as of now the compressor kicks in but also the electronic fan should go on instantly but it does not. something is amiss. i was trying to ovoid bringing it in to my mechanic..
ARRGG.. Boy I miss my 69 Firebird 400. I hate this electronic crap!!

So the fan does not engage when the ac is turned on and now the clutch stays engaged even when ac is off. and no cold air at vents ???

The system wasn't empty it was full of moist air from the atmosphere from when you changed the sensor. The system has to be evacuated before charging it.

Ok thanks i guess now it will have to go into the shop. I only have a little time to fix certain things since i work 7 days a week. Luckily i have my truck to drive .. Always something. Car was off the road for five years . Ive been slowly fixing everything that it needed full suspension flush radiator new thermo.and waterpump breaks and hoses etc . ill add this to the list....

Just went to check again ac button lit on dash now compressor clutch not on. so it needs more diagnostic maybe a bad compressor? only engages if i jump the relay but still no ac fan. car has two fans. they both come on only when temp hits like 220 so its out of my scope..i keep reaserching but it will have to go to my mechanic.

It could be it requires the compressor to engage for the fans to come on.

Thanks i had the compressor engaged this morning when.i changes the pressure sensor. I had jumped the relay engaged the clutch and filled the refrigerant. To about 40 psi on my little guage . But fand didnnot turn on till the radiator temp hit about 220 typical on these grand ams. I waited an hr . Nothing. I know fan has to come on to get cold air at the vents. So now i have to keep digging. Right now clutch did not engage when ac button is pressed on dash. Ill heve to keep reading up. Thanks for fast response.

So what i have reaserched is .I think I will have to bring this in and vacumm it down and refill the system. I read that even thogh I had put refrigerant in and on my store boght guge it says full,It may have (ill say air in the line) so may need more freon .It can cause the fans not to come on w.. Not enough pressure in the system. Thats my take on it because i can get the clutch to come on when jumping the relay.Ill bring in to shop In august my inspection is due then and my oil change..

I was able to remove the pressure switch.Grand Am's only have one switch (sensor).I was able to get the clutch spinning but the fan was not coming on. My neighbor who is a Nissan senior tech said that it was most likely still low on Freon and the fan would not turn on till it was high enough. Sure enough he was right. It was blowing like ice but It has a leak.Did not last more than 2 days. So I will have to bring it in. I believe the compressor is the culprit..
