I went to a mechanic and he said he couldnt tell what the sound was. It goes and comes from time to time, it gets REALLY loud and it sounds like a chain spinning but rubbing on a metal wall. Sometimes i dont hear it, and sometimes its so freaking loud that it gives all sunfires around the world a bad name. Its coming from the area around the alternator, the mechanic said it might have something to do with a timing belt.. any ideas here? Its a great car.. just this sound really kills its reputation 
And it lasts for anywhere from 5 seconds to 10 minutes then goes away for a few hours or days depending how much i drive.
a little more info is that i got it to start really loud to show the mechanic by revving the engine up 3 times and then letting it idle for about 30 seconds, then *sccreeeeeechhhhh / grinding noiiisseeee*
