Ground issues

I have the wires that some one put from my struts to the valve cover as a ground because if you take it off then the car won't start and acts weird there a weird ground problem it on a 1996 pontiac sunfire 2.2 with out the grounds the lights will work but won't start or do anything

Is the fuse box nearby and if so have you checked for a broken ground?
Has the car been running without any issues?

I got a ground strap to help fix the problem
