Hi this is my first post here but have been reading on here for awhile without registering. Since I'm having problem I registered to get help.

2000 Pontiac Montana shifts hard after warming up. I can drive it all day if I start it cold and have no problems but if I stop somewhere for a couple minutes it starts shifting hard when I continue driving. Sometimes if I pull over and turn it off for 10 seconds or so it will go back to shift smooth. Any ideas?

could be a bad shift solenoid

171,000....changed the filter and fluid about 10,000 miles ago. Where is the shift solenoid located on the tranny, so much in little area things are hard to find. Thanks for the quick replies!!!!

I looked on rockauto and the didnt have a shift solenoid. They had a control solenoid that sound like it was what your were talking about for only $15. That would be nice if that all it was. I just hoping it not inside the transmission. Transmission is the only part I wouldn't work on myself if I had to open it up.

My moms had a hard shift between two gears. Finally went out in November all together. A used tranny was put in and it works fine now.
