I recently came across and acquired a 1966 LeMans. It’s a bit unique in that it has the factory 326 HO, 4-speed, no console, Saf-T-Trak, manual steering and brakes, and rallye performance dash gauges with tach. Sort of a baby GTO wannabe. I bought it for a project this winter. It’s a legit solid survivor that should be a really nice car after I put who-knows-how-many hours of wrenching and polishing in it.
My question: one of the first things I will be doing is replacing the original distributor with HEI. I’ve never done this on a car with a factory tach. Can anyone tell me where it gets its signal, and what if anything I need to consider in order for it to function with HEI? I looked in the 1966 Tempest shop manual but didn’t see the answer.
TIA!
