If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... Hi,

I am Dyewitness, in the real world called Markus, from Germany.

So please forgive me my kinda bad english. It is only some rusty schoolgrade englisch without any specific wording for the Topics.

What do I want to do here?

I am not in the position to tell you that I drive or own an Pontiac.

But I am very interested in the LT2 engine, which was used also in the Sunbird.

In my search to equipp my car with a new, more powerful engine I stumbled upon some problems.

Due to the fact that I own a car that is equipped with an aftermarket LPG kit, I am bond to use only TBI engines.

Currently my ride ist equipped with the so called X16SZ Opel engine.

Yes, it is an Opel.

A Opel Astra 1.6i Vision from 1993, the pre facelift Version.

I think I will shoot the next days some pictures to show it off to you.

It is producing a whopping 71 HP at a curb weight of about 1 metric ton.

Yea.

Due to the fact that the valve stem seals are now nearly EOL it is using more oil than Gasoline, at least if i move it with LPG.

So I have to repair or replace the engine.

And this last idea is my plan.

But here in Germany, we have very strictly regulations by the TÜV (Technical Surveillance Club). If you change something at your LPG kit without the governmental permission paper that you are able to do so, your car never gets street legal anymore.

So I am not able to exchange the frontkit of the LPG kit from TBI to MPFI.

This bonds me to TBI engines.

The Most powerful TBI engine in the Opel Astra, or any other Opel is the so called C18NZ, ab 1.8 litre, with 90 HP.

With some heavy tuning measurements of the engines head you can get about 105-110 HP out of it.

So far, so good.

But I want more displacement.

So I searched for an GM engine that is fulfilling that.

And in the LT2 I have found it!

After some reasearch I can basically say, that the LT2 is heavily related to our C20NE, a 115 HP 2.0 litrwe engine with MPFi.

And I know that the head of the C18NZ can made be fitting to the C20NE hull motor.

So this new hybrid form of engine is nearly the LT2.

With some european changes.

The ECU programming is made for german "Normal" or "Super" gasoline, so 91 or 95 octane.

I do not know exactly, but I think the LT2 ECU programming was made with much more caution reagrding gasoline qualioty. Something like 70iesh octane.

Also the ECU and TBI parts here are from Bosch, not from Rochester like on your side of the ocean.

Cause of the better parts suplly I´ll go with Bosch parts.

But to answer my (possible) questions, I am here.

Is this new kind of hybrid engine street legal here? NOPE! But an TÜV engineer cannot determinate the iner guts of the engine as easily as an other kind of LPG front kit. The hull motor is for the C18NZ, C20Ne and also the LT2 nearly the same, only the inner parts are diffrent. But this you cannot see, if you put the head of a well known and street leagal engine on top of it.

So this ist kinda the story of mine why< I am here. I will pierce you with questions about the LT2.

And possible I will ask someone to sned me some USA parts over the ocean, if I need them.

I hope, I am welcome here. Even if my car is only a small european chock. ;)

Welcome to our forum; your English is great and very understandable.

I don't do much with 4 cylinder engines, but it sounds like you've got solid knowledge there.

I'm looking forward to seeing your post around.

Cheers,

Rich
