Hey y'all. I'm new to this forum, but have been a member over at ls1gto.com for about 5 years. I have an 04 GTO that's definitely NOT stock, that's my pride and joy. But that's not why I'm here right this moment.

Last week I bought an 89 Firebird that's had an engine swap done for that of a 90 C4. The guy I bought it from only had the car a month or so, and is not the one that did the swap, so I'm not sure he knows a whole lot about the car. He said it was idling in the driveway one day and ran out of gas. Since then, it idles ok but when you mash the gas, it acts like it's starving for gas. It sputters, pops and hesitates and smells real rich. (yes... we put gas in it) It didn't want to crank this morning and we had to pour some gas into the intake to get it started.

I'm not sure whoever did the engine swap did any kind of tuning, at all, afterward. I have no way to read any codes or do any computer diagnostics at the moment. The fuel pump is running and the fuel filter seems fine. My boyfriend checked it this morning. His thinking is that a new, higher output fuel filter might fix the problem but also thinks it may be the injectors.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions are greatly welcomed!

If it ran out of gas there is a good chance the fuel pump is damaged. Do a pressure test and if necessary replace the pump and filter
