I am so happy to find a Grand Am forum! I hope someone can help with the issue I am having. I have a 2004 GT Ram Air 6 cylinder that keeps throwing a misfire in cylinder 1 code have changed plugs, wires and mechanic has checked everything and can't find the problem. It idles rough, especially when cold, but drives fine. I am also getting a low coolant light that will not go away even though coolant is full.... could the 2 be related? They both started at the same time. I would greatly appreciate ideas here my wallet is about empty

why do you say apparently, all he did was replace plugs and wires, what about everything else, you cannt assume he did. Whats the compression on #1 cylinder? Did he switch coil packs to see if the code changes to another cylinder? Did he disconnect the exhaust before the convertor to check if it's clogged? Did he switch the injector to another cylinder? etc.

I say apparently because he told me he has checked all of those items but didn't go into what he did to "check" these items. I trusted him because I am sure if there was work to make money on he would have told me I needed it. We did discuss the coil and housing, he said wires tested fine... I changed the oxygen sensors a year ago, there was a code for that.. he vaccuum tested the pressure for leaks... fuel injector and cataytic converter test fine.. and so on, we covered all of this at the shop. He is stumped and so am I. It will cost me another arm and a leg to have him due further testing... on what I am not sure. That is why I started researching this online and found this forum. I asked about the possibility of the low coolant problem being involved is because in a thread that was posted on this forum in 2011 the symptoms were the same and plugs, wires and coolant sensor was mentioned as a possibility from someone on this forum... so I kinda thought maybe since the car runs roughest when cold, drives perfectly fine. Thanks for your help.

That sensor was probably the coolant temp sensor, not the low coolant sensor. The problem has to be fuel, ignition or compression related
