I have a 1984 Fiero 2.5 L and the problem I am having is that when I start the car in the morning it wants to run from 2100 to 2500 rpms on the tach and sometimes it will go back down to 1000 rpms after driving it for 20 mins. But most of the time it will just sit there and run at the high rpms. What the heck is wrong with it???

Tthanks Oreif, How do you track down a vacum leak?? Where do I start. The IAC was replaced recently.

The easiest way is to use starting fluid spray or WD-40.
With the engine running from a cold start up spray around the base of the throttle body and intake manifold. If the engine stumbles your vacuum leak is one of the gaskets. If it doesn't check the vacuum lines.

Just out of curiosity, when you changed the IAC, Did you clean the port out where the IAC screws into? If there is dirty in the port, The IAC may not close properly to set the idle.
Also have you driven the car yet. The ECM only resets the IAC when you drive the vehicle over 40 mph.

I will try the starting fluid or wd40. No I didn't clean out the IAC port. Will pull the IAC and clean it out. Thanks Oreif

Oreif, I did the starting fluid test and the engine ran normal, pulled the IAC and blew it out. Will test drive when I go to work this afternoon and get back to you on how the RPMS act.

Hi Oreif,
My car ran better yesterday when I went to work, at least the rpms didn't stay high once it warmed up. Will see how it does today but now after it does warm up and I take off down the road and I accelerate the car boggs down and then takes off like it takes awhile for the shot of gas to get to the TBI. Fuel Pump?? I have replaced the plugs, wires and distrib cap and rotor.
