How come my Pontiac Grand Am sometimes takes longer than usual to start?

starter motor is slowly going out it takes time for tghis to happen. either that or the teeth on your flywheel are getting soft. If you hear a grinding it's the flywheel. If it's just not wanting to turn over then it's the starter.
