how do you purge air from a lifter on 2001 pontiac sunfire GT?

Engine lost oil through a bad oil sensor switch. Now the motor knocks when it reaches 2500RPM. I have been told that its just air in the lifter, I changed the oil but I guess the air doesn't purge out like they do in older model vehicles.

no.... whoever told you it was just air in the lifters is wrong

they were damaged when the engine lost all its oil and will need to be replaced

since you say knocks it might be a lot more then lifters, like rod bearings!
