My husband and I are on a search for a large vehicle for our growing family. We first thought a SUV with 3rd row seating would be best for us, but we are concerned about gas mileage. We found a 2000 Pontiac Montana with 114,000 miles on it. After some research, we found that many people that own a Montana, love it. My only concern is the miles that are on it. I know as long as you take care of the vehicle they can last well over 200,000 miles, but not knowing much about the background of the van other then what the dealer tells me, im a little concerned. Any info about the Montana appreciated!

I have a Pontiac Montana 2003 with over 430,000, Original Motor/Transmission no head gasket done. Only the regular, Alternator, Water pump etc. Start a -40 first crank, still drive really well.

I tryna get a Montana van with 200,000 miles on it wonder will it be a good car

So cool to stumble upon these Montana mileage stories. My 2005 (last of the old style, 3.4 engine) has 314k miles and is going strong. It had the intake gaskets done several years back with the Felpro steels, and the shift solenoids & pressure solenoid in the tranny replaced at just shy of 200k. I then added a trans cooler. I believe this is the best insurance for keeping the transmission functioning properly for a long time to come, as they say heat is what kills these transmissions. Otherwise eng/trans are original. Replaced struts and shocks, control arms/ball joints, wheel bearings, radiator, alternator, water pump, and lots of electrical gizmos like washer fluid pumps and rear wiper motor. And the headlamp assemblies too. She’s a daily driver who regularly hauls teenagers and occasionally pulls a pop-up camper. The rust has eaten away the rocker panels and is creeping into the rear trailing arm brackets, so will quite literally drive itself into the ground in the next 3-5 years. :( That’s the worst thing about these vehicles.
