...grand am 03? Mechanic charged me $400 and i felt that they ripped me off. So could guys tell me how much really it costs?

depends on new or rebuilt and how hard to instal.. 400 is a lot 300 sounds better,,,but a new starter could cost over 200...so maybe price is fair.look at bill...how much 4 starter and figure 2 hours to instal at what per hour...in my town dealer gets 80 per hour my backyard guy charges 30/hr.

I do all the work myself,i payed $88 and change for mine,but i own my own auto body shop,and i had one of my employes do it,so if you did it your self,mabey $90 to $110.You should have called around,shoot it's a 45 minute job,man screw that you got burnt BIG TIME.Most garages charge around $60 an hour,so it should have been around $220 tops,+ you should of bought the starter and took it to them,see what they did was double charge you for the starter.
