You can buy a battey tender for a small fee if storing it close to power. Other than that it is best to remove the battery and store it out of the winter cold.
I used to store my "91 bird indoors for 6 months of winter. It depends how old the battery is. Starting it once every week saved my battery. Better yet just disconect the battery cables, or keep a portable battery booster handy. They're not expensive.
its always a good Idea to start the car once a month at least, not just to save battery life, but to keep the oil flowing, and all other parts in shape... let it idle of about 5-10 mins at a time...
