I need to replace headlight bulb for my 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6. I followed the manual and tried to pull the headlight assembly out but it failed after taking me almost 2 hours. It looks like there are some other bolts or pins we should remove but the manual do not mention.

Any helps? Thanks,

The 2006 owners manual only mentions the pin and screw yet the 2005 seems to use the same assembly and you have to remove the side light assembly first which is held on with a thumb screw.

Thanks for all replies, but the side lights and headlights are the same assembly on Montana 2006.

I've got the same issue. The 2005 model is different in that once you lift the hood the entire headlight assembly is "in the clear" -- there is the side light to the outside, but nothing to the inside. On the SV6 the hood is flat going across (instead of dipping down around the headlights) but there is still a part of the front of the "grill" (for lack of a better word0 that is tight around the headlight assembly. And the weatherstripping that is part of the headlight assembly is stuck behind that part. On the SV6/2006+ models the headlight assembly is in one piece (so there isn't a side-light you can take out to make room.

I'm kind of stuck.

OK, I managed to get it out. A little bit of collateral damage (some plastic chipped away around the ball-and-socket, and some around the bottom of the headlight assembly, near the end of the weatherstripping. What a stupid, stupid design. Why do I keep buying GM?
