Hi,

My girlfriends hvac system will not turn on at all. Doesnt matter what speed i put the knob i get nothing. The ac button still works though. Im guessing a bad relay but have no idea with these cars.

If it is a bad relay where do find it on the car to replace it. Any other thoughts or suggestions would be great.

Thank you.

did you look under the hood to see if the compressor engages? Does the fan work for heat, if not, the fan resistor is burnt out.

The fan is not running but not sure about the compressor. Im still learning so how do i know if the compressor is engaging?

Is the transistor that needs replacing the one i read about on another post located under the glove box?

Thanks

have you girlfriend turn the a/c on while you listen under the hood. If you hear a click and a change in engine sound the compressor is engaging. Are you saying the fan doesnt work when set for heat?

ok so i talked to my gf. The fan is running when she turns the heat on even though no air actually comes out of the vents and the compressor is also engaging with the a/c. But when u turn the knob to any setting no air flow into the compartment occurs?

Just the switch relay then? is that an easy fix and where would i find the relay/transistor?

Thanks again.

what does she have the vent control set for? A/C, Bilevel, defrost, defog, etc.

the vent control knob has been broken for a long time and only works on the face/top level.

sounds like you are saying both the blower fan and compressor are running so you have an issue with the door that is controled by the vent knob

"But when u turn the knob to any setting no air flow into the compartment occurs?"
which knob are you talking about the fan speed?

im sorry for the poor description but yes the fan speed knob.

when she turns the fan speed knob does the fan increase in speed?

when u turn the fan speed knob nothing happens but the fan will turn on. im not with the car and she cant tell if the fan is increasing in speed or not. ill take a look tonight myself so i can be sure what is happening. thanks and sorry its so confusing.

ok, if the fan speed does not increase in all probability the Resistor is burnt out.

i finally got to look at it more closely and the fan is not coming on at all so i would assume that its still the resistor. where do i find that in the car so i can replace it, or is it not a DIY sort of thing?

Thanks again for all your help.

I only have a crude diagram to look at but it looks like it is located under the dash on the blower motor case.
