i have a 1987 pontiac fiero gt 5 speed manual.?

i left my car running in neutral when i went into a store and when i came out and put it into reverse i had nothing ... so i moved the shifter around and got it into first i think... but now my shifter is all loose and wont go into anything but i think the trans is stuck in first ?

you need to go under the car and check the linkages to make sure they are connected properly or if there is any other problem with them.

The linkage is not under the car. On a Fiero it comes out the middle of the firewall and goes to the top of the transaxle.

As for it not shifting, The linkage for the shifter is bad or the mount on top of the transaxle broke off it's mount. (common problem). Open the decklid and follow the 2 shift cables to the bracket.
