"I have a 1999 Pontiac GRAND Am whenever i hit the brakes it makes a crunching sound?

I dont think it is the pads, but maybe the calipers its just also the sound occurs when in reverse when brakes are used as well , no grinding or squeaking either just an annoying sound and can be heard everytime i stop... any advice would be greatly appreciated..... i just dont wanna pay for sumthn i dnt need and me being female well sometimes it happens any ideas help a girl out.... thx.....

It sounds like you need pads and rotors....in front and check brake shoes (pads) and you probably have drums on the back. There is hardware in the drums they might be loose have them checked too.
Ask around there are places that will do free brake inspections for you.
Hope this helps.

Hard to diagnose online - but agree that the pads are a high probability. Suggest the best way is to pull a wheel and have a look.
