weird noise. what could it be?
it sounds like a deep rubbing noise. hard to describe. but it will also make that noise when driving 60 mph. is it the bearings, ball joints, or what? i would like to fix it myself what do i look for to solve the problem? thanks for your time in answering this question. i have a little mechanic experience just not alot.

pontiac grand am 2000 cv-joint & seal?

i have ask this question before and now i have more info. when driving 60 mph or turning left my frontend(left side) makes a loud rubbing noise. (best way i can describe it) i removed the tire and noticed fluid leaking at the base of the axle. if it indeed is the axle. it turnes the tire anyway. is it the cv-joint and/or seal and which needs to be replaced and can it be done by me who has just a little bit of mechanical experience and how much does it cost? sorry lots of questions?

rob go to my site and read wheel bearings etc. for how to know a bearing problem. my best educated guess is that your in the A- frame control arm bushing is what it sounds like. it looks like a hockey puck and cushions the front of the car.there are two bushings the one in the front usually. not a major deal and if that turns out to be the problem ask on the site and ill give you some tips if you want to make the repair.good luck and have a great day! i know it sounds off the wall but we change these busings a lot.

Well Rob if it leaking from the boot off the axle? If it is then you just have a boot to replace, as for the noise there are 2 pivot points that can make the noise.

Upper strut bearing and the lower ball joint, a Cv joint will make a clicking noise, and just replace the whole axle it faster ....
