i hit a big dip in my firebird. now when i get to around 70 it shakes really hard. what could have

happened? i was cruising down a country road in my 88 firebird and hit a huge dip. now when i hit about 70 it shakes really hard. i figured that i could have bent my upper control arms or bent my rims. any suggestions?

You might of bent your rim, and that made the wheel unbalanced. I did the same thing afew weeks ago. I took it to a tire place and they rebalanced my tire

go get your front end checked out... alignment, the works

sounds like the alignment is messed up

You pretty much guessed what I was going to suggest. Bring it to an alignment shop. Same thing happened to me when I had my 86 iroc when for some foolish reason I visited Staten Island NY comming up from North Carolina. The roads in Staten Island are hellish!! What a dump! Funny thing- Staten Island was developed on NYC waste land- this is what that island was originally used for so no wonder that place has such horrible roads, and totally smells like raw sewage 24/7.

my guess is a rim but it could have bent control arms or tie rod ends could have come loose, may be a inner tierod that has play in it

the first thing i would get checked is a wheel weight might have got knocked off carry it to a tire shop and have it rebalanced, if the car doesn't pull to one side the alignment should be ok, it's also possible that you broke a belt in the tire the tire shop will be able to check that also

Either a bent wheel or You broke a belt in the tire. One or more is out of balance.
