i just brought a used 96' pontiac grand am.the driver side controls don't work...

when i brought the car, i was aware that the windows didnt work.i just wanted to get other opinions on how reslove the issue.oh and i brought it from a private seller.

It may just be the switches on the actual controll board. After many years of use they tend to wear down and start to lose connection. You can easily take them apart and check then, they will look burnt out and black or dark.

Check your fuses. If they are fine. Get someone experienced to take the door apart to get to the controls. Could be something simple like a wire that came unconnected. Also did you by it private sale or through a dealer. If you got it from a dealer take it back there and have them fix it.
