...firebird.? both the belts heated up and shredded in less than a mile. does anyone know if i should replace the bearing on the tensioner pully or the whole thing?
Don't be too quick to jump on the tensioner - any one of the other belt-driven accessories could be dragging excessively. Be sure to solve the right problem!
As far as the tensioner itself, unless you are adept at bearing replacements, suggest to change out as a unit.
