I have a 97 and a 98 Sunfire GT's with 2.4 and Manual 5 speeds. I cannot find Half shafts that fit my 97. The ones I ordered from Cardone fir my 98 but my 97 has an intermediate shaft on the Passenger side. I've been through the Cardone catalogs and cannot find any that match up. Has anyone else had this problem?

did you look at autozone?

Yes, have been to all the car parts stores. They all list the same part numbers for my car. I have to think that the factory substituted the trans in my car but don't know where to go from here.

if you look at their site the passenger side has a long shaft, why do you think it wont fit?

Because mine has a short shaft on the driver's side. The one that I ordered is the long shaft. It does fit my 98, just like the books say. The books also say that the long shaft fits my 97, but it doesn't.

have you considered a local junkyard

Have you measured the shaft lenghts. The one piece shaft may replace the two piece one. Which side are you unsure of. You mention both sides.

Ok, So here is the deal, the long shaft does replace the two piece shaft. It was in an old service bulletin, not sure what year, the problem is that no one mentions in in their parts catalog. At any rate that problem is solved. The trouble I had with the driver's side was that when I installed the new one, the lobes on the inboard cv joint hit the ear on the transmission mount. I measured both the old unit and the new one and found that the new one is a larger diameter. That too is a change in part design when they went to the long shaft. So, I reached in with my grinder and took approx. 1/4 inch off of the ear and made the required clearance. My old girl is back on the road and the ride is smooth as silk again.

Glad you solved it.
